Monday Night Time Trial

  • April 08, 2019
  • 5:45 AM
  • S. Coast Railroad Museum @ Los Carneros Road

Daylight Saving Time is back and so is the Monday Night Time Trial Series, starting tonight!

Perhaps Santa Barbara's longest running cycling event, it happens the second Monday evening of the month during Daylight Saving Time.

Departing at one minute intervals you'll ride an approximately ten mile course (open roads, obey traffic laws and be safe) on familiar roads, starting at the Railroad Museum at Stow Grove and finishing at the high school. Times are recorded and accumulated over the season; prizes and bragging rights are awarded.

You'll see riders decked out in all their wind cheating glory, equipped to the max with full aero, to those, like me, riding whatever is at hand.

How fast can you ride ten miles on a rolling course? Can you do it in under 22 minutes? 24? Probably not - those are the fastest most competitive times and they are scorching! Can you do it faster next month than today? That's the real question. You're probably not competing against Brandon Baker or John Echeveste or Robert Krohn; you're racing against the clock - and yourself.

It's more or less a half hour of all out suffering followed by hanging out at the finish line and bragging or commiserating then home for dinner. And that's pretty much what bike racing is all about, usually followed with beer and this time without having to drive for hours. Sound good? See you there!
